Barely restrained floral exuberance distinguishes this design. It is inspired by a 17th century Herati carpet that hails from Eastern Persia, where it once graced an Imperial palace. In the antique piece, a symmetrical field of flowers extends from a lozenge shaped central motif. Large blossoms are disposed at intervals on stems bearing smaller blossoms, leaves and buds, in an array of deep reds, blues and browns sparked with lighter tones and white on a deep red inner field. This superb interpretation by Nourison is, like the original, symmetrically balanced around a lozenge-shaped center, and is even more richly populated with floral motifs, creating a lively air of overflowing beauty that celebrates the life force in nature. Rich and dramatic in details of ruby, jade, topaz and moonstone, the lapidary tones sparkle in contrast to the deep navy ground, framed in a complex border tinged with gold. Masterfully patinated with Nourison's proprietary methods, this rug evokes an authentic antique appearance.
